about

'At Sea' remembers the choppy sailing journey Sarah made between Shetland and the Faroes on her musical odyssey to Iceland by boat. Using cello loops, ocean recordings from the journey, and the unmistakable playing of BJ Cole's pedal steel, a vast sea-scape is conjured into being. The song then transforms it's pace and urgency in order reach the safety of dry land, with guest vocals from Sophie Ramsay (who was also on the boat) and Gren Bartley. This is a song about being at the mercy of wind and tides, and giving yourself over to nature; for Sarah it is also about the upheaval of grief after her pregnancy loss - being at sea, "tethered and floating", as we all are before we are born. Ultimately, nature as healer brings her back to herself.

lyrics

We've been out
at sea for a day
and there's nothing to say
we're travelling
by the wind and the tide
there is nowhere to hide

All of me
has been given away
to the salt and the sway
I'm dreaming
of the creatures beneath
how they pull me so deep

Into the blue with
Nowhere to anchor
Minds on the weather
Carry us home

Back to the ocean
Tethered and floating
Closer to freedom
Carry us home
